THE HOME OF THE MOST HOLY MOTHER OF GOD

Precentor of the Monastic Choir of the Valaam Monastery Hierodeacon German (Ryabtsev)

1 CD (colour booklet 8 pages)
1999 The Igor Matvienko Production Centre

The CD receives its title from the verse set to music, which is performed by the monastic choir with exceptional feeling. You will hear different chants. These are the already familiar Znamenny chant, as well as Greek, the less known Kartolino-Kañhetinian, Byzantine and even Old Byzantine (theme-songs of the Nativity of Christ in the Greek language). Also presented is Valaam chant, which would be interesting to compare with Znamenny chant («O Gladsome Light»).

The choir of Valaam Monastery diligently observes the old traditions of church singing and conveys them to the listener with deep and heartfelt warmth.
