You will hear not only hymns of the main Christian service — the Divine Liturgy and heartfelt readings from the Epistle of St.Paul to Galatians and the Gospel according to St.Matthew, but also the Troparion and Kontakion to Ss Sergius and Herman of Valaam, the founders of the Valaam Monastery, in Kievan chant with ison: the melody is accompanied by a protracted singing on one note, as a rule, in lower register.

Though the hymns are performed in Church Slavonic, all words are sung and read so distinctly that the listener understands them as if he were hearing them in Russian.
