| This akathist is like a wreath interlaced with the most beautiful laudations for the Queen of Heaven. The exultant «O Victorious Leader…» was heard for the first time in 626 when Constantinople was saved from pagan siege by the intercession of the Mother of God. As a token of their gratitude for the miraculous escape the faithful sang a hymn with an exclamation «Rejoice!» all night long, and Constantinople patriarch Sergius composed this akathist.
Along with the Common chants the CD includes original authors" compositions performed by the soloists with choir («O Mother worthy of all praise», «O Victorious Leader» in various chants, Canon to the Mother of God, music of irmoses by P. Chesnokov; music of troparions by A.Arkhangelsky).
2 CD, color booklet (52 pages) in Russian and in English with a narration on the history of the akathist and the chants as well as with the full text of the Praise to the Most Holy Mother of God. |
